How It Works
A breakthrough for treatment-resistant depression
Spravato contains esketamine, a form of ketamine that targets the brain's NMDA receptors and glutamate system. This mechanism is fundamentally different from traditional antidepressants, which is why it can work when SSRIs, SNRIs, and other medications have not.
As the first FDA-approved treatment in a new class of antidepressants, Spravato represents a significant advance in psychiatric care — offering rapid relief and a new path forward for patients who have struggled to find effective treatment.

Our Facility
A calm, private space designed for your treatment
Spravato is administered in our dedicated treatment suite — a quiet, comfortable environment designed to support your experience. Each session takes place in a private recliner with access to headphones, soft lighting, and a calming atmosphere.
You will be monitored by our clinical team for the required two-hour observation period following each dose. Our goal is to make every session as comfortable and supportive as possible.

Is Spravato right for you?
Spravato is FDA-approved for adults with specific diagnoses who have not responded adequately to prior antidepressant treatment. A comprehensive evaluation helps us determine if you meet the criteria.
REMS Program & Safety
Spravato is only available through a restricted distribution program called the Spravato REMS (Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy). This means it can only be administered in certified healthcare settings — like ours — where patients are monitored for at least 2 hours after each dose.
Northern Lights Psychiatry is a certified Spravato treatment center. Our team is trained in the REMS program requirements to ensure your safety throughout every session.

Your Spravato journey
Psychiatric Evaluation
We conduct a thorough evaluation to confirm a diagnosis of treatment-resistant depression or MDD with suicidal ideation and review your prior treatment history.
Insurance & Prior Authorization
Our team works with your insurance to obtain prior authorization for Spravato, which is covered by many plans when criteria are met.
In-Office Treatment Sessions
You self-administer the nasal spray under our supervision. You remain in our office for 2 hours after each dose for monitoring. You will need a driver home.
Ongoing Monitoring & Support
Spravato is used alongside an oral antidepressant. We monitor your response closely and adjust your overall care plan to support lasting improvement.
